In the Time of Herod, We Long for God to Break In.
In the days of king Herod – there was a priest named Zechariah – and his wife, Elizabeth, who had long hoped for a child. Luke grounds the beginning of the story of Jesus’ birth in a world shaped by violence, occupation, and fear. Into this world comes the word, “do not be afraid.” God has been listening. God enters the ache, the barrenness – into the very place where fear has taken root.
